Tips to overcome unfair competition in France

When creating a company, protecting it against unfair competition and counterfeit should be one of your top priorities. What are the ways to do that in France?

What’s unfair competition?

Unfair competition refers to practices that directly harm your competition on the market. Here are some examples:

  • Brand confusion: having a name and a website voluntarily similar to one of your competitors so that you can deceive their clients
  • Economic parasites: using the good reputation of one of your competitors to make yourself more well-known, for example by constantly comparing your products to theirs

There’s also counterfeiting, which refers to selling products that purposefully imitate the competition, so that clients will think they’re buying their products.

How can you protect yourself from it?

The best way to do this is to deposit a trademark! If you have a trademark, you can sue anyone who is using these tactics, and thus protect your brand from harm.
