The rise of female entrepreneurs

Let’s face it: when you’re a woman, business is hard in the United States: in 2017, only 2% of Venture capital investment went to female entrepreneurs.

In France, however, that’s a different story: Between the new French President Emmanuel Macron making gender-equality one of his main goals and institutionalized public funding for entrepreneurs, more and more women are turning to business creation. So much so, in fact, that France is attracting women from other countries.

Even France is not perfect though: no more than 10% of Venture capital investment went to women in 2017. But mentalities are changing, and results are already showing; 40% of the entrepreneurs present in France’s new main start-up incubator, Station F, being women.
